I debated whether The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs counted as “a book with nonhuman characters”, but in the end I decided that it did, as the Wieroos, unlike the other kinds of humans the main characters meet throughout the novel, are fictional. Originally published as a trilogy of short novels, the work is an entertaining account of the discovery of a lost world.
